RTRS-RUBBER-Tokyo futures rise on Thai intervention plan (01/02/2012)

TOKYO, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Key TOCOM rubber futures
edged higher early on Wednesday encouraged by Thai government
plans to start a market intervention scheme in mid-February,
which countered pressure from a strong yen.
FUNDAMENTALS
* The key Tokyo Commodity Exchange rubber contract for July
delivery <0#2JRU:> rose 1.6 yen to 316.5 yen as of 0035GMT.
* On Tuesday, a Thai senior Agriculture Ministry official
said the rubber intervention scheme is expected to start in
mid-February after several legislative steps have been

* The Thai government has approved a 15 billion baht ($474
million) plan to buy rubber from farmers at 120 baht per kg to
support domestic prices. [ID:nL4E8CO34M]
* U.S. auto sales for January are expected to show 6 percent
growth from year-earlier levels, evidence of a slow recovery as
Americans opt to replace cars and trucks they kept on the road
through the recession. [ID:nL2E8CUCTA]
* Honda Motor Co <7267.T> slashed its annual profit guidance
to the lowest level in three years as it counted the cost of
natural disasters in Japan and Thailand and a strong yen. But it

MARKET NEWS
* The yen stayed at a three-month high against the U.S.
dollar at around 76.22. [USD/]
* The Nikkei share average dipped on Wednesday after online
retail giant Amazon.com warned it may log a first
quarter loss, while U.S. economic data revived concerns about
the strength of recovery in the world's largest economy.[.T]
* Brent crude edged higher while U.S. oil slipped on
Tuesday, as disappointing U.S. data reined in prices that had
surged on hopes Greece could reach a debt deal and on a European
Union move toward budget discipline.[O/R]
